Harrell Dale Newman

1927 – 2018

Harrell Dale Newman, age 90, of Fayette, passed away peacefully at his home on January 2, 2018.

He was born in Fayette on January 15, 1927, a son of Albert and Della Griggs Newman.  Harrell married Esther Fay Johnson on January 24, 1948 in Fayette.  Esther preceded him in death on January 19, 2009 after being lovingly cared for by Harrell for many years.

Harrell was a long-time farmer and had also been employed with MODOT, Avery Coal Mine and Parish Construction.  He was a member of the Fayette First Baptist Church.  He enjoyed gardening and watching what was happening in the neighborhood from his porch and visiting with those who dropped by.   His other favorite activities included hunting, fishing, trapping, raising hunting dogs and livestock.

Survivors include his children, Michael Newman and Linda Sudol and husband, Frank; grandson, Stephan Sudol  and wife, Bridgett, and special friend and caregiver, Beth Marshall and her family.

In addition to his wife, Esther, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rebecca Newman and a brother, Bill Newman.

Services honoring Harrell’s life will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Carr-Yager Funeral Home in Fayette with Rev. Dale Larison officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Fayette.

In lieu of flowers, Harrell requested memorial contributions to the Fayette Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry.
