John Darrel McNerney

John Darrel McNerney, 88, passed away on February 12, 2018 at Boone Hospital. He was the husband of Donna McNerney. They shared 68 years of marriage together.

There will be a celebration of life event planned, with details to be announced at a later date.

Born in Clarinda, Iowa, he was the son of John R and Mildred McNerney. Throughout their marriage, Darrel and Donna lived across Iowa and Missouri, including Trenton, Lake Ozark, and Fayette, ending their journey in Columbia, MO, where they have lived for the last 17 years.

Darrel was an entrepreneur/businessman throughout his life, beginning his career as manager for Fareway grocery stores, owner of A&W drive-in restaurant in Trenton, MO and was co-owner of Rocking Eight Ranch in Fayette, MO. Darrel finished his career in the insurance industry. He retired as VP of MMG, Inc. in 2017 after 38 years in the business. Darrel remained on the board of MMG, Inc. through the end of his life.

He was a member of the Elks Club, the Masonic Lodge, Missouri Tigers Quarterback Club, past-president of the North Missouri Saddle Club, and attended Faithbridge Church. He was an avid Missouri Tigers fan and enjoyed attending games and cheering on the Tigers. Darrel also enjoyed travel and spending time with family. He will be remembered as a man of great integrity and a role model to so many.

Darrel is survived by his wife, Donna McNerney, sisters, Mary Morgan and Doris Battern. He is also survived by his children, Dianne Underwood and husband, Jim Underwood, Dan McNerney and wife, Julie McNerney, David McNerney and wife, Susan McNerney and grandchildren, Scott & Tammy Perry, Kiley McNerney, Mindi & Jeremy Patty, Abby & Brad Langan, Dasan McNerney, Alyssa & Skyler Gamm, Dylan & Amanda McNerney, great grandchildren, Bailey Perry, Dakota Perry, Addisyn Patty, Alivia Patty, Jeremy Patty, Hudson Langan, Juliana Langan, Tucker Gamm, great-great grandchildren, Bentley and Raiden, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and his brother, Don McNerney.

His life was cherished deeply by friends, family and all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
