Sharon Weedman Obituary

Sharon Kay Weedman, 82, of Columbia, formerly of Macon, Missouri and Phoenix, Arizona died March 15, 2024.

Sharon was born September 7, 1941 in Belmond, Iowa to Ivan and Sylvia Fleming. As the youngest of five siblings, Sharon was determined to pave her own path in life and did so leaning into her undeniable strength and love for people. She spent her life pouring into the lives of others, from friendly chats with neighbors at the grocery store to filling the cups and hearts of those she served in food service over the course of 20 years at Glencroft Retirement Community in Glendale, AZ. Sharon never knew a stranger.

She was also a gifted poet who loved to read. When Sharon wrote, her words danced across the page, creating deep, soulful illustrations in the minds of readers; a sharpened pencil was all she ever needed to create a work of art.

Despite her creativity and impact in the community, Sharon would say her greatest accomplishment was as a Mom and Grammy. She set the standard for what motherhood is. Through sacrifice, tenacity, and unconditional love, Sharon raised three successful children and loved them more than life itself. Being a Grammy was no different for her. Through countless sleepovers, card table forts, and many batches of Rice Krispies treats, she made every moment with her grandchildren count. She helped them develop an appreciation for the simple things in life, and provided a stable foundation to weather any storm. Sharon was blessed with her tenth great-grandchild, Logan, in 2020, with whom she shared a special bond. She gladly embraced her new role as ‘Bappy,’ a fitting conclusion to her incredible legacy.

Sharon is survived by her three children, Mitch Wilt, Scott (Cindy) Wilt, of Buckeye, AZ, Shelly (Eddie) Maupin of Columbia, MO, a sister, Norma Keeney of Kearney, MO, a brother, Russell Fleming of Macon, MO, four grandchildren, Jennifer Wilt of Phoenix, AZ, Michael (Rachael) Wilt of Buckeye, AZ, Bryana (Dennis) Larimer, Blaine Maupin, of Columbia, MO, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Sharon is preceded in death by her husband, Jim Weedman, parents, and two brothers, Marvin and Lowell Fleming.

Memorials are suggested to Services for Independent Living, c/o Markland-Yager Funeral Home, PO Box 126, New Franklin, MO 65274.
